Air India, a state-owned airline, has returned to its former owner. Air India's winning bid was won by the Tata Sons unit. This was announced by Tuhin Kant Pandey, Secretary, DIPAM. Pandey said at a press conference on Friday evening that the Tata Sons unit Talace Pvt Ltd won the Air India R18 million. The agreement is expected to be finalized by the end of December this year. The rest of the company's debt will be transferred to Air India Asset Holdings Ltd (AIAHL).

Pandey said from 2009-10 until now, the government had set aside Rs 54,584 crore as funding for Air India. Apart from this, Rs 55,692 crore has been set aside as a guarantee of funding. In this way, the government has set a total value of rs 1,10,276 crore on Air India from 2009-10. Air India has a debt of Rs 61,562 crore as at 31 August 2021. The winning Tata Sons winner will carry a debt of Rs 15,300 crore. Following this, Air India will have a debt of Rs 46,262 crore.


what will happen to the workers

Secretary for Air Transport Rajiv Bansal said Air India currently has 12 085 employees, of which 8 084 are full-time employees and 4,001 are on contract. Apart from this, there are 1434 employees on Air India Express. He added that the winner of the Tata Sons project will retain all staff next year. If they are not retained for the second year, the company will voluntarily retire them.
